KEITH HARING, born in 1958 in Kutztown, PA, began his ten-year career as a rebellious street artist in New York City. Along with New York Icons such as Andy Warhol, Kenny Scharf, and Jean-Michael Basquiat, Haring proliferated in the realm of pop-art of the 1980’s. In fact, his work is considered by many to be emblematic of popular culture of the 80’s in general. During his brief yet impacting career, Haring managed to create not only a huge and diverse body of work, but a huge international following as well. His tragic death from AIDS in early 1990 was a tragedy to the art world, but was also an eye-opener for society about the reality of the HIV virus.
