CHECKERBOARD Prototype Roller Ball

The "Checkerboard" Phase 3 pen by Lella and Massimo Vignelli was only sampled, and never went into production. The checkerboard design of the pen looked great, but with every other square laser etched into the glossy finished barrel, it actually compromised the structural integrity of the pen. Thus, every sample we have is actually has a crack along the top of the barrel. Because of this we couldn't proceed with this design. The final pen ended up with a classy knurled pattern in a matte silver finish. There are only 6 samples of this pen ever made. Two are in the company archives. One was sent to the designers. So there will only ever be three available for sale. Of those three remaining, t his is the only roller ball pen. Once these are sold out, no more will ever be made available for sale.
